ABOUT

Daniel Robert Spurgeon is a creator, writer & end-of-life care physician.

He’s creating & collaborating on stories about death, dying & grief; confronting whiteness & defending Black lives; abolishing prisons of all kinds; and reminding ourselves of who we truly are, and how that’s connected to the greater good.

Daniel’s writing began over twenty years ago with poems inspired by Shel Silverstein’s Where The Sidewalk Ends. In college, he was a creative writing major and studied with Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Gary Snyder, who inspired a greater interest in Buddhism, deep ecology and the acknowledging & honoring of Indigenous peoples. As a medical student & resident, he began writing plays & screenplays; as a fellow at San Diego Hospice, he forged a deeper respect for the role stories play in personal & cultural transformation; and over the years as a practicing physician, he fell in love with not only the medium of television, but also the team-based approach to writing it.

Daniel believes that the how and with whom are as important as the what. In other words, he believes that an aligned & trusting team writing from a loving & joyful vibration is a powerful creative force-- a force that can shift our culture, step by step, story by story, from fear to love.
